Teen Charged With Murder Of Two Newark Teens

Wilmington Police have arrested a 16-year-old male juvenile in connection with an October 8 fatal shooting incident.

On October 8 at approximately 5:07 p.m., police responded to the area of 6th and North Pine Streets in reference to a shooting incident that had occurred. Responding officers located two male gunshot victims. One of the victims, 16-year-old Nathan Lopez of Newark, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The second victim, 17-year-old Kaleb Blumberg of Newark, was transported to the hospital in critical condition and subsequently died from his injuries.

The case was assigned to Detective Justin Wilkers of the WPD Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Wilkers identified a 16-year-old male as a suspect. On October 13, Detective Wilkers presented the case to a New Castle County Grand Jury, which returned an indictment against the suspect.

The 16-year-old male juvenile suspect was taken into custody on October 14, and he has been charged with Murder (First Degree) – Two Counts, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony – Two Counts, Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony – Two Counts, and Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited.

The 16-year-old male juvenile was arraigned in New Castle County Superior Court and was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $2,030,000 cash-only bail.
