Woman Airlifted After Impact With I-95 Barrier Tuesday

A serious crash halted traffic on Interstate 95 northbound near Airport Road Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle struck a jersey barrier and overturned.

According to Assistant Public Information Officer Leslie Antonelli-Hobbs, emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 4:50 p.m. for reports of a motor vehicle collision with rollover. Responding units from Christiana Fire Company and Minquas Fire Company arrived to find a single vehicle that had rolled onto its side following the impact.

Firefighters worked to extricate the driver, described as an approximately 65-year-old woman, who was trapped inside the vehicle. Once freed, she was treated on scene by New Castle County Paramedics for serious extremity injuries and possible internal injuries.

Delaware State Police Aviation transported the patient to Christiana Hospital in Stanton with paramedics accompanying her on board. Officials reported her condition as serious at the time of transport.

Delaware State Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
