A house fire in North Wilmington late Monday left a 70-year-old woman hospitalized in serious condition. Fire crews were dispatched to the 2100 block of Inwood Road, just off Marsh Road, at approximately 9:30 p.m. Responders located the woman inside the residence and removed her from the home.

According to New Castle County Paramedics, the patient appeared to be suffering from potential airway burns. She was transported from the scene to Wilmington Hospital for emergency treatment.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has opened an investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Initial reports from the scene confirmed that the woman was the sole patient transported from the incident.
