Fire crews responded to a trailer fire in the Kings Mill Trailer Park on North Dragon Drive in Delaware City Tuesday evening. Crews responded after an initial fire alarm dispatch escalated into a working incident with smoke visible on arrival.
The first call was received at 7:17 p.m., sending Engine 15 and Engine 29 to North Dragon Drive for what was reported as a smoke-detector activation. Additional information relayed to 911 indicated a possible trailer fire, prompting dispatchers to add Engine 10, Engine 6, Engine 27, Engine 4, Ladder 12 and other supporting units at 7:22 p.m.
Quint 15 arrived at 7:24 p.m. with smoke showing. Crews reported that a neighbor had advised an elderly male was inside a rear bedroom and may be unable to get out. Firefighters entered the residence as heavy smoke conditions were being reported.
Shortly after arrival crews began fire suppression and a search of the residence. Firefighters located one occupant and requested medics to respond to the front door for patient access. Paramedics and BLS personnel treated the individual, who was later transported from the scene to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
At the 10-minute benchmark, command reported steady progress and requested regional station coverage while units remained committed to the incident. No additional injuries were reported. Fire suppression and overhaul operations continued until the situation was declared under control. Units on scene were held as command secured the trailer and completed final checks.
