Fire officials are investigating a residential structure fire that occurred Sunday afternoon at a home on Glover Circle near Newport.
The call for the fire was received just before 4:00. First arriving units initially reported smoke showing from the residence. A short time later, fire was confirmed at the single-story, single-family home. Crews placed three hoselines into operation and began suppression efforts.
Primary and secondary searches of the structure were conducted as firefighters worked to contain the blaze. All searches were completed with negative results. The fire was later brought under control, and units remained on scene for overhaul and monitoring operations.
During the incident, one firefighter was was reportedly injured and transported to Christiana Hospital for medical evaluation. A neighboring resident who witnessed the response stated the firefighter was carried from the home and appeared to have suffered an injury to a leg, officials have not confirmed those details.
A female neighbor was also transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Multiple fire, rescue and emergency medical units from across New Castle County responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire has not been released, and the incident remains under investigation.
