Newark Man Charged With Third DUI, Multiple Other Charges

Newark Police responded to a reported trespassing complaint in the unit block of Waterworks Lane during the early hours of January 8, 2026, according to police.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 12:31 a.m. after a caller reported a male subject walking around the property and looking into the windows of a residence before sitting inside a vehicle parked in front of the home.

Police said officers made contact with Robert Davis, 37, of Newark, who was seated in the driver’s seat of the vehicle with the engine turned off. Officers spoke with Davis for several minutes and reported that he appeared visibly impaired. Davis told officers he had walked to the vehicle from a restaurant and believed he was at the wrong house. Officers asked if he needed assistance getting home, which he declined. Davis stated he would walk home and left the area on foot, after which officers cleared the scene.

A short time later, one of the responding officers observed Davis operating the same vehicle on Kells Avenue, police said. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Davis failed to stop. When the vehicle eventually came to a stop and the officer approached on foot, Davis accelerated at a high rate of speed and fled the area, according to police.

Police reported that Davis committed additional traffic violations while fleeing. Officers did not engage in a vehicle pursuit and instead responded to Davis’s residence, where he was located and taken into custody without incident.

Davis was transported to Newark Police Department headquarters and charged with driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, third offense; disregarding a police officer signal, first offense; resisting arrest; aggressive driving; reckless driving; multiple counts of failure to obey a traffic device; unreasonable speed; and failure to signal when turning or moving a vehicle.

Davis appeared by video before Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was committed to custody in lieu of $4,705 secured bail. Police said he was later released after posting bail.
