Mall Ramp Closed Route 1 NB Due To Police Action

An incident that multiple readers described as a police pursuit ended in a rollover crash near the Route 1 northbound off-ramp at the Christiana Mall on Wednesday morning at approximately 11:30 a.m.

According to initial reports from the scene, the pursuit came to a stop when the fleeing vehicle struck another vehicle and a guardrail along the ramp. As a result of the collision, one of the vehicles overturned, though it was not immediately clear which vehicle rolled over.

Witnesses reported that the driver of the fleeing vehicle exited after the crash and ran into a wooded area nearby. Law enforcement officers quickly established a perimeter and began searching the surrounding area. Reports indicate the individual was taken into custody shortly before 12:15 p.m., though authorities have not yet released official confirmation.

Emergency medical personnel responded to evaluate those involved in the crash. One patient was treated at the scene and transported to Christiana Emergency Room. The nature and severity of the injuries have not been disclosed.

The Route 1 northbound mall off-ramp remains closed as police continue their investigation.
