Police: Three Charged In Daylight Shootout

Three people have been charged following a daytime shooting in Wilmington that left two individuals wounded.

Police responded at approximately 12:10 p.m. on March 4 to the unit block of Cedar Street after receiving reports of gunfire. Officers arriving at the scene located 54-year-old Brian Ringgold suffering from a gunshot wound. Ringgold was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Officers also found 29-year-old Kaishira Burton, who had been struck by gunfire and was transported to a hospital in stable condition. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

Officials said the investigation was assigned to Detective Joran Merced of the Wilmington Police Criminal Investigation Division. Investigators determined Burton had shot Ringgold during the incident, after which Ringgold returned fire and struck Burton.

Burton was charged with attempted murder in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, and discharging a weapon. She was arraigned in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Correctional Institution on $109,100 cash-only bail.

Ringgold was charged with assault in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, and discharging a weapon. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $63,100 cash-only bail.

During the investigation, officers also made contact with 35-year-old Shadara Cooper, who was found to have removed a second firearm from the scene officials said. Cooper was located in the 100 block of Stroud Street and taken into custody without incident.

Cooper was charged with tampering with physical evidence. She was arraigned in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released on $500 unsecured bail.
