Pedestrian Struck And Killed Wednesday Night

A fatal pedestrian crash is under investigation after a man was struck and killed late Wednesday night in New Castle.

Authorities reported that the incident occurred on April 22, 2026, at approximately 9:50 p.m. in the southbound lanes of North Dupont Highway near Bacon Avenue. A Ram 2500 pickup truck was traveling behind a tractor trailer when it changed lanes. Investigators said a pedestrian entered the roadway from the Manor Park Shopping Center and into the path of the pickup, where he was struck.

The victim, a 71-year-old man from New Castle, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the Ram, a 53-year-old New Castle man, and a passenger were not injured.

The roadway remained closed for approximately three hours as troopers conducted their investigation and cleared the scene. The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
