Suspect Runs from Police, What Officers Found In His Possession

A 23-year-old man was taken into custody following a foot pursuit in Wilmington after officers reported observing suspicious behavior earlier in the day.

Police said that at approximately 12:18 p.m. on April 21, members of the Gun Intelligence Unit were in the area of Sherman and North Lombard Streets when they noticed a male subject acting suspiciously. Officers attempted to make contact with the individual in the 500 block of East 10th Street, at which point he fled on foot.

Authorities said the suspect was apprehended a short time later without further incident and was identified as Avery Brown, 23. During the investigation, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun.

Brown has been charged with two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $30,500 cash-only bail.
