A 16-year-old Newark male has been arrested in connection with a March 10 shooting that injured a 15-year-old girl in Wilmington, police said.
Wilmington Police said officers responded at about 5:40 p.m. on March 10 to the 800 block of West 6th Street for a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
The investigation was assigned to Detective Avery Stewart of the Criminal Investigations Division. According to police, the investigation led detectives to identify a 16-year-old male as the suspect, and warrants were obtained for his arrest.
Police said the juvenile was located on April 1 in the area of 5th and Madison streets and was taken into custody without incident. Authorities also said he was wanted on an unrelated matter out of another jurisdiction.
The teen has been charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm on a city street.
He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $139,000 cash-only bail.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional details will be released when available.
