Housefire claims the life of one near Newark

A person was found dead following an early morning house fire Tuesday in the Harmony Woods development near Newark.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly before 3:30 a.m. to the unit block of Minor Drive for reports of a residential structure fire. While responding, emergency crews received information that a victim might be trapped inside the home. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions, with the residence already fully involved.

As crews battled the blaze, conditions inside the structure continued to worsen. Around 3:45 a.m., command ordered firefighters to evacuate the home due to safety concerns. A significant portion of the roof collapsed shortly before 4 a.m.

Firefighters later recovered a victim from the residence. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation. Additional information has not yet been released.
