Man Charged With Assault, Robbery In Shooting, Victim Hospitalized

A 30-year-old man has been charged following a late-night shooting in Wilmington that left another man hospitalized.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded at approximately 11:48 p.m. to the 1900 block of West 4th Street for a reported shooting. At the scene, officers located a 33-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

During the investigation, responding officers located 30-year-old Jonathan Colon and took him into custody without incident. Police said officers recovered a loaded handgun.

Colon has been charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, first-degree robbery, two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $130,000 cash-only bail.

The investigation remains ongoing, and Wilmington Police said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
