Police Identify Man In Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting

Wilmington Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a 19-year-old man dead late Wednesday night in the city’s East Side.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:12 p.m. in the area of 24th and Jessup Streets. According to police, officers on patrol observed a large crowd gathered in the area when they saw a 19-year-old male exit a residence armed with a handgun and point the firearm toward the crowd.

Police said officers approached the armed individual, who then fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, an officer discharged their department-issued firearm, striking the suspect.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Kadir Skinner, was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators said a loaded firearm was recovered from the suspect. The involved officer was not injured during the incident.
