Troopers ID Cyclist Killed In Hit-And Run

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a Seaford man Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred on July 24, 2026, at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Woodpecker Road, west of Butler Branch Road. According to investigators, 73-year-old Michael Barrett of Seaford was riding a bicycle eastbound along the south edge of the roadway when an unknown vehicle, also traveling eastbound, struck him. The driver fled the scene without stopping.

Barrett was pronounced dead at the scene. Woodpecker Road was closed for approximately four hours while members of the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated and cleared the crash scene.

The investigation remains ongoing. Detectives believe the suspect vehicle may have damage to the passenger side, possibly near the turn signal housing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Master Corporal K. Argo at (302) 703-3264.
