Delaware State Police arrested 38-year-old Stephen Lemmons of Wilmington Sunday morning after troopers allegedly found him inside a New Castle car dealership following a burglary alarm.
Troopers responded to Glacier Auto Sales 2 at 216 North Dupont Highway at approximately 6:15 a.m. on September 13, 2026. When troopers arrived, they found that a window had been smashed and forced open.
Police said troopers located a masked suspect inside the dealership and ordered him to come out. Lemmons complied and was taken into custody. During a subsequent search, troopers allegedly recovered a concealed machete, burglar tools and property belonging to employees of the dealership.
The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit took over the investigation. Detectives determined that Lemmons allegedly intended to steal a vehicle from the dealership.
Sunday’s arrest is not the first time Lemmons has faced burglary-related charges in Delaware. State Police records show that a Lemmons then of Felton was arrested in August 2020 on burglary and related charges. In May 2021, State Police again announced the arrest of Lemmons, then 33 and of Felton, on multiple criminal charges connected to numerous burglaries and thefts in Kent County dating back to March 2021.
A Department of Correction record lists the 38-year-old Lemmons as being in custody at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
For Sunday’s case, Lemmons was charged with wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, third-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, theft of $1,500 or greater, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and criminal mischief.
Lemmons was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court and issued a $10,100 unsecured bond on the new charges. Despite the unsecured bond, he was committed to the Department of Correction on capiases connected to an unrelated matter.
