October 27, 2026 · By First State Update News Room

A 28-year-old Wilmington man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly fleeing from New Castle County Police in a stolen vehicle Tuesday afternoon before being arrested several hours later in Wilmington.

On Monday, October 26, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers with the New Castle County Division of Police were conducting proactive patrols near East Justice Street in Newport when an automatic license plate reader alerted them to a stolen Toyota Camry. Officers confirmed through a law enforcement database that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Wilmington on October 21.

Police spotted the Camry traveling on Justice Street and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver allegedly refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed, committing multiple traffic violations and endangering other motorists. Officers eventually lost sight of the vehicle.

Early Tuesday morning, officers located the stolen Camry near South Rodney Street and Latimer Street in Wilmington. The driver was taken into custody without incident, although police said he initially provided a fictitious name. Officers subsequently confirmed his identity and determined he was the same person who had fled earlier.

The Wilmington man was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged with three felonies, including receiving stolen property valued over $1,500, providing false statements to law enforcement and disregarding a police officer’s signal. He also faces misdemeanor reckless driving and multiple traffic violations involving improper passing, failure to signal and speeding.

The suspect was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 7 and released after posting $7,500 secured bail.
