Man Charge With 5th DUI Sunday

Delaware State Police arrested a 65-year-old Georgetown man on a felony fifth-offense DUI charge following a traffic stop Sunday night in Bear.

Police said a trooper spotted a Nissan Titan swerving while traveling southbound on Route 1 near Wrangle Hill Road at approximately 10:25 p.m. on October 4, 2026. The trooper stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Bruce Butler.

According to police, Butler showed signs of impairment and refused to complete all of the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. He was subsequently taken into custody. A computer check showed Butler had four prior DUI-related convictions and a suspended or revoked driver’s license, police said.

Butler was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 2 and charged with felony fifth-offense DUI, driving while suspended or revoked, and failure to remain within a single lane.

Following his arraignment by a Justice of the Peace Court, Butler was committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on a $6,150 secured bond.
