WILMINGTON, Del. — Wilmington Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision after determining that a 38-year-old man found dead in a city roadway last week had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
On Thursday, October 15, 2026, at approximately 1:47 p.m., officers from the Wilmington Police Department’s Uniformed Services Division responded to the 900 block of Guyer Avenue following a report of a deceased individual.
When officers arrived, they located an unresponsive 38-year-old man who was found to be deceased. Investigators subsequently determined that the man had been lying in the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver fled the area following the collision.
A person who contacted First State Update seeking information about the case said the collision occurred near Ninth Street and Guyer Avenue at approximately 1:15 a.m., several hours before the man’s body was discovered. The individual also claimed that surveillance cameras captured the collision and that Wilmington Police have access to the footage. Those details have not been independently confirmed by police.
The individual expressed concern about the delay between the reported time of the collision and the discovery of the victim, as well as the limited information available to the public and the man’s family.
Police have not released the victim’s identity, a description of the vehicle involved or an official time for the collision. Investigators have also not disclosed why the man was lying in the roadway before he was struck.
The Wilmington Police Department’s Special Operations Division Traffic Unit continues to investigate the fatal collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Senior Corporal Brendan Marshall at (302) 463-8970.
