The New Castle County Police Department is now accepting applications for its 2027 Youth Academy. The program is open to local youth ages 13 to 17, from 8th grade through high school seniors, according to police.
The academy runs from January through May 2027, with meetings held on the first and third Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Route 9 Library in New Castle, Delaware, police said.
Participants will engage in hands-on activities and instruction led by police officers. Police said cadets will learn about criminal investigations, traffic stops, evidence collection, CPR, leadership, and teamwork. The program aims to provide a better understanding of police operations and community service.
The application deadline is December 1, 2026. Interested individuals can apply online through the New Castle County website. For questions, police advise contacting the Community Services Unit at 302-395-8050 or via email at [email protected].
