24-Year-Old Man Dies In Rollover Accident

Milford- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that has claimed the life of a Milford man which occurred early this week, according to Public Information Officer Master Corporal Jeffrey Hale.

Hale said the investigation thus far has determined that the crash occurred on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at 11:24 p.m., as Cody S. Hopkins, 24, was operating a 2006 Dodge Ram and was traveling in a northbound direction on Canterbury Road just south of Blue Jay Lane.

As Hopkins attempted to negotiate a curve in the roadway, his vehicle’s right side tires traveled off of the east edge of the roadway. The Ram then re-entered the roadway and began to rotate in a clockwise direction before skidding off of the roadway. It then traveled in a northeasterly direction before striking a group of trees and overturning, ejecting Hopkins onto Blue Jay Lane. The Dodge continued traveling in a northeasterly direction until it came to rest on its right hand side on Blue Jay Lane.

Cody Hopkins, who was not properly restrained at the time of the crash, was removed from the scene and transported to the Milford Memorial Hospital. He was later transported to he Christiana Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition before being declared dead on Tuesday, June 20, 2017. Speed and alcohol use appear to be factors in this crash which remains under investigation at this time, according to Hale.
