New Castle – The Delaware State Police, along with crews from DelDOT, DNREC and the Belvedere Fire Company spent the overnight hours clearing an accident involving a single overturned tractor-trailer.
The truck, hauling packaged cauliflower, overturned this morning, Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at approximately 1:22 a.m., on I-95 northbound just south of I-495 northbound , according to State Police.
The two right hand lanes of northbound I-95 approaching the I-495 northbound split were closed to traffic as the fuel spill from the tractor-trailer is cleaned up and the crash is cleared.
I-95 NB was backed up to the welcome center near Route 273 for most of the morning’s commute. Most of the normal routes leading to 95 were backed up as well. Drivers trying to avoid the the traffic clogged side roads across the northern part of New Castle County.
New Castle County Paramedics, Minquas and Cranston Heights Fire Companies were originally dispatched to accident. Arriving New Castle County Paramedics found one patient, a 31-year-old male, the driver of the overturned tractor trailer, was in care of fire personnel. The patient suffered injuries to his back, arms and legs.
He was transported via Minquas Fire Company ambulance to Christiana Hospital accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in stable condition at the time of transport.
