Perryville – Maryland State Police at JFK Highway are investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Interstate 95 north of Route 222, in Perryville at around 10:32 a.m. The accident occurred when the driver of a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, 37-year-old Eric Schlerf of Bel Air, Maryland, for unknown reasons, lost control of his vehicle and struck a tow truck, another vehicle, and a pedestrian.
The tow truck was a 2014 white Freightliner Tow Truck. The Freightliner Tow Truck was retrieving a 1993 purple Chevrolet Camero. The tow truck operator, 51-year-old Brian Williams, was outside of the vehicles and was struck. State Troopers and EMS personnel responded to the scene. Mr. Williams was later pronounced deceased at 10:48 a.m.
MDTA personnel responded to the crash to aid with lane closures. The investigation is on going.
Williams served as a fire lieutenant and EMS captain for The Community Fire Company of Perryville. He was working his tow truck job for Collette’s Service Center when he was struck.
