Newark – On July 8, 2017 Newark Police Department (NPD) arrested Robert Coleman, 51, of Newark, for 4th Offense Driving Under the Influence and other traffic violations following a traffic stop in the area of Casho Mill Road and Vassar Drive, according to NPD Spokesman Fred Nelson.
Nelson said at approximately 11:09 pm an officer on patrol noticed a vehicle stopped in the southbound lane of Casho Mill Road. The officer then observed the vehicle begin to back up in the lane of travel, according to Nelson. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, a black Cadillac, and contacted the driver, Robert Coleman.
The officer noticed signs of alcohol impairment when speaking to Coleman and had him conduct field coordination tests, said Nelson. Coleman was subsequently arrested for DUI. A records check determined that Coleman has three prior convictions for DUI, added Nelson. Coleman was video arraigned in front of Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard Young Correctional Facility after failing to post $15,501 secured bond.
Robert Coleman was charged with 4th Offense Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession and Improper Backing.
