Wilmington Police Rescue 14 On The Christina River

Wilmington – Just after 1:30 pm this afternoon water rescue crews from the Minquas Fire Company and Wilmington’s Police Marine Unit responded to the Christina River near the Wilmington Riverfront for reports of a watercraft in distress.

Arriving Wilmington Police Officers found the Riverfront River Taxi disabled in the marsh with 13 passengers and the captain aboard. The officers were able to tow the boat back to the dock near the Riverfront were the passengers were met by Wilmington Firefighters.

The boat experienced engine trouble shortly after the tour began and became lodged in the marsh area just across from the dock, according to the captain of the vessel. No injuries were reported

A statement on the companies website reads as follows: “Due to mechanical issues- the River Taxi will not be operating this weekend- Saturday, August 5th and Sunday, August 6th. Thank you!”

Minquas Fire Company rescue crews arrived on scene but were not utilized as the passengers were already on shore.
