Police: Serial Robbery Suspect Arrested

Newark –  Following a joint investigation by the Delaware State Police, New Castle County Police, Upland Borough, PA Police Department, and the Brookhaven, PA Police Department, a 24 year old Upland, PA man has been arrested and charged following a series of armed robberies which have been occurring since late last month, police said.

On August 11, 2016, the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Marvin E. Banks, 24, in Upland, PA without incident. Through multiple interviews and the collection of physical evidence, Banks has was identified as the suspect who committed four armed robberies and a carjacking,investigated by the New Castle County Police Department, in Delaware, as well as two additional armed robberies in Pennsylvania, according to authorities. Police said that a subsequent search of Banks’ residence revealed evidence linking him to the crimes. Banks was also found to be wanted in Delaware for violating the conditions of his sex offender status, according to police.

Marvin Banks was arraigned and is currently incarcerated in Pennsylvania. Delaware State Police Robbery Unit detectives have obtained warrants charging him with six counts of Robbery 1st Degree, 11 counts of Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited, 6 counts of Aggravated Menacing, 2 counts of Wearing a Disguise during the Commission of a Felony, 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, and 2 counts of Kidnapping Second Degree.  Banks will be formally arrested upon his extradition to Delaware.

Police said that Marvin Banks is suspected of committing the armed robberies of the following businesses:

  • Dunkin Donuts, 701 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, June 25, 2016
  • Walgreens, 1508 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, July 3, 2016
  • Walgreens, 802 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, July 30, 2016
  • Wawa, 301 Ridge Road, Claymont

 

In each of the incidents Banks would enter the targeted business, display a handgun, demand money from the victim employee(s) and flee the scene.
