Wilmington – On August 30, 2017 at approximately 4:05 pm, Wilmington Police Officer’s responded to W. 34th Street and Miller Road in reference to a personal injury motor vehicle vehicle accident involving an occupied school bus and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian victim, identified as a 66-year-old male was found to be suffering from a severe laceration to his left leg. A Good Samaritan on scene provided immediate care to the victim until the arrival of police and EMS. The victim received further treatment on scene by New Castle County Paramedics before being transported to the Christiana Hospital Emergency Room by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit.
The victim is currently undergoing surgery and no immediate condition is available.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a Brandywine School District bus, operated by a 39-year-old male was turning eastbound on W. 34th Street from Miller Road when he struck the pedestrian victim. The victim was walking in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision. No additional injuries were reported and the bus remained on scene. The Wilmington Police Department Special Operations Division Traffic Unit is currently continuing their investigation. Charges are pending for the operator of the school bus. Wilmington – Fire Crews from Wilmington Fire, along with New Castle County Paramedics are currently on scene in the 3000 blk of Miller Road treating a patient that has been struck by a vehicle.
Reports from the scene indicate that the patient has serious injuries. Trooper 4 had just arrived on scene at the accident on Route 1 when they were diverted to this accident.
Trooper 4’s LZ (landing Zone) is at a nearby soccer field.
