Texas – Delaware National Guard Hurricane Support Providing C-130 Evacuation Transport and Staff Assistance A Delaware National Guard C-130 and flight crew returned over the weekend from nearly a week in Texas assisting with Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Delaware NationalĀ Guard The team was called to duty and within a few hours departed Delaware on Tuesday, August 29th.
While deployed, Delaware National Guard Airmen flew a total of 11 sorties. Missions included transporting 31 emergency aid personnel, more than 24 tons of cargo, and evacuating 214 people to safety.
“This is the National Guard at its best,” said Maj. Gen. Carol Timmons, Adjutant General, Delaware National Guard. “Not only do we have Soldiers and Airmen deployed to fight our nation’s wars, but we are helping fellow citizens in Texas, while preparing for the possible implications of Hurricane Irma.”
While one C-130 and crew has returned home, there are still approximately 30 Delaware National Guard troops deployed and answering the call.
A team from the 142nd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron departed Delaware on September 2nd and is currently on site in Fort Worth, Texas. The team consists of flight nurses, aeromedical evacuation technicians, and a health services administrator. This flight crew and Aeromed team specialize in conducting medical support missions. The Delaware National Guard also has Soldiers and Airmen helping staff the National Guard Bureau’s Operations Center, near Washington, D.C. Staff positions include experts in communications, operations, intelligence, and public affairs. Here in Delaware, our Joint Operations Center is staffed 24/7.
