Newark – In a statement sent out on Tuesday night, Newark Charter notified students and parents that Friday’s homecoming game would be canceled due to the death of an Archmere Academy student.
The statement read in part:
We ask that you send our friends at Archmere Academy kind thoughts and wishes as they grieve the tragic loss of one of their students due to a car accident.
Anthony James Penna was a junior at Archmere Academy, where he was a member of the varsity soccer team, lacrosse team and Bass in the elite Mastersingers.
Anthony’s memorial services will be held Friday and Saturday at Archmere Academy. As you can imagine, this is a difficult time for Archmere’s school community and the Penna family.As a result, our Friday night homecoming game against Archmere is canceled. At a later date we will reschedule the competition. In an effort to maintain our homecoming tradition, attempts were
made to move a volleyball game to Friday night. Unfortunately, we were not successful finding another opponent.We ask that all students and family continue to participate fully in our Spirit Week and attend competitions to support our teams.

Greenville – Troopers announced that they have reopened Kennett Pike after almost five hours. The road was closed while they investigated this morning’s accident.
Greenville – Delaware State Police are currently investigating a two vehicle crash which has sent three subjects to the hospital with serious injuries, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.
Austin said the initial investigation has revealed that the crash occurred at approximately 7:19 a.m. this morning, Friday, September 29th, 2017 on Kennett Pike (Rt. 52) approximately 1 mile north of Hillside Rd. A total of two vehicles were involved in the collision with three subjects being transported to Christiana Hospital for treatment. Kennett Pike remains closed at this time and motorists should seek alternate routes of travel.
As the accident occurred Good Samaritans quickly began to treat the patients until rescue crews arrived on scene, according to witnesses.
Witnesses at the scene indicated that Trooper 4 did land nearby and transported one patient by air. The other two were transported by ground.
