Elkton – Deputy State Fire Marshals are continuing the investigation into the origin and cause of a fire that resulted in the fatality of a 63-year-old Elkton man.
At 3:21 PM, Singerly Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched for a reported fire alarm sounding with sprinkler activation at 2700 block of Pebble Beach Drive located within the Pine Valley Apartments complex. Upon entry into the apartment, firefighters discovered a fire had been extinguished by sprinklers and later located the victim, where he was rescued and CPR was initiated. Cecil County Department of Emergency Services Paramedics later pronounced the victim deceased on scene.
Investigators have preliminarily determined the fire originated within the dining room of the one-story apartment. The investigation revealed both the fire sprinklers and smoke alarms operated correctly.
The victim has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine the exact cause of death.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Elkton – Just before 4:00 this afternoon rescue crews from the Singerly Fire Company, along with crews from Newark’s Aetna, Hose Hook and Ladder, Chesapeake City and Elkton Police responded to the 2700 block of Pebble Beach Drive for reports of an apartment fire with injuries.
Arriving crews found smoke in a two story apartment building with an injured patient. Authorities quickly determined that that the patient would need to be transported by air and alerted Trooper 1 (Maryland State Police Aviation).
The patient was removed from the burning building and was being treated when they succumb to their injuries.
Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire. More information will be added to this story as it becomes available.
