Newark – The two-year-old child struck in the collision yesterday was treated for minor injuries and released from A.I. DuPont Hospital, according to Lt. Fred Nelson. Nelson said the 22-year-old adult female was treated for a superficial cut to her foot at Christiana Hospital and released.

Police have just issued the following statement –
The Newark Police Department is investigating an officer involved vehicle collision that occurred on Thursday, 11/2/2017 at 1:17 p.m. The initial investigation has revealed that a Newark Police Officer driving a 2013 unmarked Chevrolet Caprice was making a left turn from eastbound Veterans Drive onto northbound South Main Street. As the vehicle made its turn, it struck a pedestrian that was crossing S. Main Street. The pedestrian, a two year old child, was being pushed on a tricycle by an adult female at the time she was struck. EMS personnel responded to the scene of the collision. The child, who was conscious and alert, was transported by Delaware State Police helicopter to A.I. DuPont Hospital. The adult pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital as a precaution. It has not been determined, as of yet, if the adult female was struck during the collision. The officer was not injured in the collision.

Newark – At approximately 1:40 pm this afternoon crews from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, along with New Castle County Paramedics, UD One ( UDEL Ambulance) Newark Police and Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation) responded to South Main Street in front of City Hall for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Aetna Ambulance crews worked on the patient, a small child, as Trooper 4 landed in the Park-And-Shop parking lot. The patient was transport to AI DuPont with undetermined injuries.
The east bound lanes of South Main Street between West Park Place and Apple Road were closed while police investigated.
