Newark Police Department Accepting Applications for 12th Citizens Police Academy

newark-police-patchThe Newark Police Department will host the 12th Citizens Police Academy scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 and operate through Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The program is designed to give residents, who are interested in learning about law enforcement, a unique opportunity to observe firsthand the various duties and responsibilities of a police officer. Anyone over the age of 18 years may apply and there is no cost to attend the program. We will meet every Tuesday evening between 6 – 9:30 p.m., with a firearms day scheduled for Saturday, November 5, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. The program curriculum includes:

 

  • Traffic Enforcement, RADAR & DUI
  • Crime Scene Investigation & Processing
  • Use of Force
  • Firearms
  • Police Culture
  • Patrol Procedures
  • Ride-Alongs

 

Applications will be accepted from now until Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Applications can be filled out at the Newark Police Department Records Unit between 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Space is limited to 15 participants with preference given to City of Newark residents.
