Wilmington –  At 1:55 AM Wilmington Firefighters on the B platoon were alerted to a house fire in the area of Vandever Avenue and North Locust Street, according to Battalion Chief John Looney.

Looney said Engine 3, Squad 4, and Tower 1 all arrived on scene, in the 2000 block of North Locust Street, to find fire showing from the front of the residence. Crews began an aggressive fire attack while initiating a simultaneous search of the residence.

The fire quickly spread to the second floor but crews were able to stop the spread at the front of the residence. All searches found no occupants inside the residence. The attached neighbors were evacuated and all accounted for. Operations were complicated when an electrical power line fell on top of Tower 1, placing that unit out of service until Delmarva Power could secure the power line.

Additional units were requested by the Incident Commander, Battalion Chief Thomas Cunningham, to assist with controlling the fire.

Battalion Chief Cunningham placed the scene under control at 2:29 AM with all fire extinguished. There are no reported civilian or firefighter injuries. The American Red Cross is on scene assisting five adults and one child. The Wilmington Fire Marshal’s Office and Wilmington Licenses and Inspection are on scene investigating the cause of the fire.

Approximately 34 fire and EMS personnel responded to the fire. The following units responded: Squrt 3, Squad 4, Tower 1, Engine 5, Engine 1, Ladder 2, Battalion-1, Battalion-2, Deputy 2, F-9, FM-18, St. Francis EMS, New Castle County Paramedics, Wilmington L & I, Delmarva Power, and the American Red Cross.
