Newark – Newark Police Department is investigating a fraud that involved the use of an ATM skimming device being placed on an ATM at 185 S. Main Street, Louviers Federal Credit Union, according to Lt. Fred Nelson.
Nellon said On 12/27/17 an officer responded to the credit union and spoke with an employee who reported that the credit union received multiple customer complaints of unauthorized transactions on their accounts. The employee reviewed surveillance footage on the drive-thru ATM and found that an unknown female placed what is believed to be a skimming device onto the ATM on 12/23/17 at 10:40 p.m. and then removed it on 12/24/17 at 7:45p.m., said Nelson.
A total of 9 customer accounts were found to have unauthorized withdrawals, with a total value of $7,673.50. The unauthorized transactions occurred between 12/25/17 and 12/27/17, before the accounts could be deactivated., according to nelson. A majority of the unauthorized withdrawals occurred at convenience stores in Newark, Bear, and New Castle. The investigating officer was able to obtain surveillance images of a white female suspect at the Louviers ATM and at several of the ATMs that were used to make withdrawals.
