Newark – On Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at 11:27 p.m. Newark Police responded to a report of a possible gunshot heard in the 100 block of Madison Drive, according to Lt. Fred Nelson.
Nelson said officers checked the area and were unable to locate anything suspicious. Approximately 30 minutes later, the victim, a 39-year-old male, responded to the lobby of Newark Police Department and reported that he was involved in an incident on Madison Drive where the suspect produced and fired a handgun.
The victim stated that while walking around the area, he met a male, later identified as Dawane Warren, 22, of New Castle and a female who were seated in a vehicle on the side of Madison Drive, according to Nelson.
The victim was permitted entry into the vehicle, however, a short time later he was involved in an altercation with Warren. Warren then produced a handgun and the victim fled the vehicle. The victim stated that when he was approximately 40 yards from the vehicle, he heard a gunshot, but he was not struck by a bullet, said Nelson.
Officers responded back to Madison Drive and located the suspect vehicle parked in the 200 block of Madison Drive. The vehicle was occupied by Warren and the female and Warren was subsequently identified as the subject who produced the handgun, according to Nelson. Warren was taken into custody without incident and a search of the vehicle revealed a 9mm handgun.
Warren was charged with Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon A Firearm, Reckless Endanger First Degree, and Aggravated Menacing on 1/18/18 and was video arraigned in front of Justice of the Peace Court 2. He received $10,000 secured bond and was turned over to the custody of the Howard Young Correctional Institution.
