Georgetown – The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is currently investigating a house fire that occurred yesterday in Georgetown. The fire critically injured two occupants, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.
Chionchio said the Georgetown Fire Company responded to the unit block of Teaberry Lane shortly after 12:00 pm. Firefighters found smoke inside the house and two occupants injured. Both occupants were transported to the Beebe Hospital in Lewes, Delaware in critical condition suffering from burns.
Update: This afternoon Chionchio said the 84-year-old female occupant died at the Crozer Burn Center in Upland, Pennsylvania. The Delaware County, Pennsylvania Medical Examiner’s office will rule on the injuries and death. The 54-year-old male remains in critical condition in the Crozer Burn Center.
State fire investigators are currently on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause. Fire damage was estimated at $5,000.
This fire remains under investigation. This is Delaware’s first fire fatality for 2018. There were eleven fatalities in 2017.
