School Officials Release Statement Regarding Glasgow High School Fight

Update

Glasgow –  Glasgow High School officials have released an official statement regarding the fight that we first reported to you on February 14, 2018.

Dear Glasgow High School Parents/Guardians:

On February 14 at approximately 10:45 a.m., school officials were alerted to an altercation taking place outside the school building that involved multiple students. Administrators and the School Resource Officer intervened; however, the incident escalated to the point where 911 was called to help de-escalate the situation. The school was placed on lockdown, and entrances and exits were locked and carefully monitored. Multiple police vehicles arrived at the scene in response to the 911 call.

The incident is being investigated by the Delaware State Police, and the District will be investigating this incident fully to determine student disciplinary action according to the Student Manual. The lockdown was lifted at approximately 12:05 p.m., and a normal school day was resumed.

Original Story

Glasgow – At approximately 11:00 Wednesday morning just under two dozen Delaware State Troopers and New Castle County Police Officers responded to Glasgow High School for reports of a fight in progress.

After our initial report yesterday, several concerned parents took to social media, while others contacted us directly. The parents were seeking more information about the incident, some wondering why the school was on lockdown.

Others commenting on perceived issues at the school and rumors that their children are hearing. One parent telling First State Update that they were at the school the day prior and that they observed the staff running around trying to stop a fight on that day as well.

As we continued to report on the incident we learned that several videos of the incident had been captured by students as the fight was occurring.

First State Update was able to observe some of the videos and can now report that somewhere between 8 – 12 young males were involved in the incident, with a group of 25 to 30 (possibly more) onlookers.

We can also report that the fight was not under control until the responding officers began to arrive. The fight was a running melee that covered the entire north side parking lot. As a State Trooper, believed to be the School Resource Officer (SRO) and several staff members were attempting to bring the fight under control, the fight kept popping up in another areas of the parking lot.

As additional Troopers and Officers arrived they were able to bring the situation under control, reportedly taking three individuals into custody.

It’s believed that the school remained on lockdown for the remainder of the school day. Troopers were also asked to be on hand during yesterday’s dismissal.

Authorities have not released any information regarding the incident and our email seeking comment from the Christina School District went unanswered.

It is our understanding that the videos we observed were handed over to the appropriate authorities.
