Newark Man Involved In Fatal Pedestrian Crash In Elkton

Elkton, Md. – On February 18, 2018 at approximately 6:24 PM, troopers from the North East barrack responded to the area near eastbound Pulaski Highway (US-40) prior to the intersection of Elkton Road (MD-279) in Elkton for a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, according to the Maryland State Police.

Officials said upon their arrival, troopers located a Gertrude M. Anderson, 40, of North East, lying in the eastbound lanes of Pulaski Highway. Emergency Services personnel pronounced Anderson deceased at the scene. Located in a business parking lot, east of the location of the collision, was a black 2004 Infinity G35. The preliminary investigation, corroborated by a witness revealed Anderson was wearing dark colored clothing, walking in a dimly lit area of eastbound Pulaski Highway when the Infinity struck the pedestrian in the roadway, according to officials.

Officials believe that the woman was struck by an unknown number of passing vehicles traveling eastbound on Pulaski Highway after the accident. A crash reconstructionist responded to the scene, as well as assistance from the State Highway Administration for lane closures. The eastbound lanes of Pulaski Highway between Old Elk Neck Road and Elkton Road remained closed for approximately three hours as this officials investigated.

The driver of the Infinity was identified as Alexis A. Espinoza Castillero, 20, of Newark, Delaware, according to police.
