Neuberger Withdraws From AG Race To Represent Firefighter Injured In Canby Park Fire

Wilmington – Prominent Wilmington Attorney, Tom Neuberger, announced Wednesday that he is withdrawing from from the Delaware Attorney General Race to focus on his new client.  Neuberger is now representing Brad Speakman, the firefighter who fell through a floor during the September. 24, 2016 Canby Park row home fire.

“I just have been called upon to take up another task arising from the tragic deaths of three Wilmington firefighters and the severe injuries and subsequent successful fight for his life of dedicated Wilmington firefighter and longtime EMT Brad Speakman, the lone survivor of the deadly September 24, 2016 arson and fire in Canby Park.”, said Neuberger.

“Wilmington has had numerous civilian deaths and now three firefighter deaths which were caused by the 16 year long “rolling bypass” policy of the City”, said Neuberger.

Neuberger indicated that his preliminary investigation lead him to conclude that former city officials may be responsible, although he didn’t say what evidence he has to that effect. “The blood of firefighters is on their hands. Their policy shocks the judicial conscience and is illegal under the due process clause of the U.S. Constitution. These men consciously disregarded a substantial and a great risk of serious harm, which was obvious, apparent and grave.”, Neuberger said, referring to the former officials.

Neuberger’s legal team recently recovered almost $8 million in federal court, after the Smyrna prison uprising. In that case Neuberger argued that two Democratic Governors and others, over a similar 16 year time span, deliberately understaffed Delaware prisons. Neuberger believes the former Wilmington officials also deliberately understaffed their fire department.

Neuberger said “My duty as a lawyer demands complete loyalty and fidelity to my new client. To do the best job for Brad I cannot at the same time over the next eight months also campaign full time statewide for Attorney General.”

“The brave men and women who still are serving as Wilmington firefighters also need the mismanagement of the Wilmington Fire Department publicly addressed and challenged by me now, since their lives are at risk daily under the deadly “rolling bypass” policy.”, added Neuberger.

I have to choose, fight for the firefighters or run for Attorney General. So I am withdrawing from the race since there is still more than enough time for the Republican Party to find and support another highly qualified candidate to give the people a choice in the November general election.” said Neuberger. “I need to help our firefighters. Fighting for the little guy is what I do best.”
