Newark man charged with a series of robberies. During the summer of 2017, police said William Piatt, 33, robbed two jewelry stores, a gas station, broke into a man’s room at a motel in Newark and robbed him, and attempted to rob another man at an apartment complex in New Castle, according to prosecutors.
During four of the crimes, Piatt displayed what appeared to be a firearm. Piatt pled guilty to 3 counts of Robbery First Degree, one count of Attempted Robbery Second Degree and one count of Felony Theft. Piatt faces 6 to 82 years in prison when sentenced by a Superior Court judge in June.
Deputy Attorneys General Danielle Brennan and Nathan Barillo secured the guilty plea.
Piatt was originally charged with Home Invasion, Kidnapping 1st Degree, two counts of Robbery 1st Degree, two counts of Conspiracy 2nd Degree, and Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony.

Newark- Delaware State Police have arrested two people and have charged them in connection with a pair of armed robberies which occurred earlier this week in Newark, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Jeffrey Hale.
Hale said the initial investigation began on Monday, September 18, 2017 at approximately 6:00 a.m., after troopers responded to the Motel 6, located at 100 McIntosh Plaza, in reference to a home invasion style robbery which had occurred. Upon their arrival, troopers were contacted by a 64-year-old male victim who advised that a male suspect had forced his way into his room and confronted him while displaying a handgun, according to Hale.
