Bear – At approximately 11:30 this morning the Delaware State Police were pursuing a black KIA Rio on Route 1 SB in the area of Route 273.

As Troopers began to call the pursuit, the vehicle exited on to Route 40 westbound. The KIA attempting to negotiate the intersection at Route 40 and Route 7, crashed, coming to rest in a ditch near the Bob Evans restaurant.

Reports from the scene indicate that the driver and the passenger both fled on foot into the Governor’s Square Shopping Center. One of the suspects was captured near the McDonald’s within a few minutes.

It’s believed that the second suspect was captured in the neighborhood behind the shopping center.

One of the suspects, believed to be the second suspect, was transported to the hospital via Christiana Fire Company ambulance, with undetermined injuries.

It’s unclear why the suspects were being pursued at this time. Wilmington Police arrived on scene shortly after the suspect was transported to the hospital. This may have been an incident that originally occurred in their jurisdiction.

We will release more information as it becomes available.
