Georgetown- Delaware State Police have arrested a Harbeson man with his 5th offense DUI after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.
Jaffe said the incident occurred on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at approximately 3:59 p.m. when Troopers were dispatched to Lewes Georgetown Highway in the area of Rogers Avenue in reference to a crash involving two vehicles. Further investigation revealed that a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Lewes Georgetown Highway when it crossed the center line and into the westbound lane, striking a 2001 GMC Sierra Pickup truck, said Jaffe.
The operator of the Silverado, identified as 57-year-old Anthony Pupillo was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.
Upon the Troopers contact with Pupillo, an odor of alcohol was detected and a DUI investigation ensued, according to Jaffe. A computer check revealed that Pupillo had four previous DUI convictions, making this his fifth offense, said Jaffe.
Upon Pupillo’s release from the hospital, he was subsequently arrested and transported back to Troop 4 where he was charged with 5th Offense Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (Felony), Driving While Suspended or Revoked, and Failure to Remain Within a Single Lane. He was arraigned out of Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $5,501.00 secured bond.
Officials did not release any further details regarding the GMC Sierra Pickup truck or it’s occupants.
