Bridgeville– Delaware State Police have arrested a Bridgeville man after he assaulted the victim with a machete, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.
Jaffe said the incident occurred on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at approximately 11:45 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for a report of an assault.
Further investigation revealed that the victim, a 55-year-old male from Bridgeville was assaulted while he was at his friend’s residence located in the 17000 block of Redden Road, said Jaffe.
The suspect, identified as 65-year-old Augustas Bailey of Bridgeville, entered the residence and began threatening to kill the victim. Bailey then proceeded to go after the victim armed with a machete, according to Jaffe. While attempting to defend himself, the victim was subsequently stuck in his right hand.
The victim sustained a serious laceration to his right hand and was later transported to the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore MD.
Troopers responded to Bailey’s residence on the 17000 block of Goose Bay Lane, where he was taken into custody without incident. He was transported back to Troop 5 where he was charged with Assault First Degree, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Reckless Endanger First Degree, and Terroristic Threatening. Bailey was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $106,000.00 secured bond.
