New Castle – At 5:51 this morning, authorities responded to the United States Post Office on Quigley Blvd to conduct law enforcement activity, according to Delaware State Police Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.
Austin did not confirm early reports that officials are investigating two suspicious packages addressed to former Vice President Joe Biden. The Delaware State Police Bomb Squad has been observed on the post office grounds but police remain tight-lipped as to what they are investigating
Yesterday afternoon, Biden’s home was searched as a precaution after explosive devices were sent to CNN and several Democrat politician’s homes and offices.
Just before 8 a.m. police also responded to the post office the Lancaster Avenue in Wilmington. Authorities are investigating a suspicious package at that location as well, according to Wilmington Police. Wilmington Police are referring all questions about the incident to the FBI.
Delaware State Police released the following statement moments ago.
“New Castle – At approximately 5:51 a.m., Thursday, October 25, 2018, the Delaware State Police, New Castle County Police Department, US Postal Inspection Service along with FBI Special Agents responded to the United States Postal Facility located at 147 Quigley Blvd., New Castle to conduct law enforcement activity.
No further details will be released at this time concerning the nature of the investigation.”
Quigley Blvd initially closed completely has been partially reopened. The areas around both post offices are restricted at this point.
The Colonial School District issued the following statement regarding the Quigley Blvd incident.
“NOTICE FOR OCTOBER 25TH 2018
Please be advised that we are aware of police activity at the Quigley Blvd post office in New Castle. While traffic may in some ways be affected, all schools in the district will operate as normal. The police investigation in no way is related to the schools in our district.”
