Dagsboro- The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash that occurred earlier today, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.
Jaffe said the incident occurred on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at approximately 1:01 p.m. when a 2011 Hyundai Veracruz, was traveling south in the left lane of southbound DuPont Boulevard (US 113) north of Nine Foot Road (SR 26). A 2015 Volkswagen Golf, was traveling north in the left lane of northbound DuPont Boulevard approaching the same general area as the Hyundai. A 2006 Honda Civic, was traveling northbound in the right lane of DuPont Boulevard a short distance behind the Volkswagen. As the Hyundai was traveling southbound, an unidentified vehicle began to enter into its lane from the right side which caused the operator of the Hyundai to exit the roadway, cross through the center median and into northbound oncoming traffic, according to Jaffe. The Hyundai struck the Volkswagen and began rotating when it then struck the Honda.
The operator of the Hyundai, a 53-year-old female and 60-year-old male passenger from Essington, Pennsylvania were both properly restrained and transported to the Beebe Medical Center where they were treated and released.
The operator of the Volkswagen, a 25-year-old female from McLean, Virginia, was properly restrained. She was transported to the Beebe Medical Center with serious injuries.
The operator of the Honda, a 47-year-old male from Maryland was properly restrained and was not injured as a result of this collision.
The roadway was closed for approximately 3 1/2 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. The crash continues to remain under investigation.
