Smyrna officers responding to a shoplifting complaint recently seized a large amount of methamphetamine as well as heroin after contacting the suspects involved, according to police.
Officials said on Friday 12/7/18 at approximately 2:30 p.m. Patrol officers responded to the Acme supermarket for a shoplifting complaint. Loss prevention employees of the store notified officers that the alleged suspects had entered a vehicle after removing merchandise and were now parked in the area of the Dollar General store.
Officers contacted Ashley Clay, 32 of Dover inside of Dollar General and she was found to be in possession of stolen items, according to police. Officers also contacted Jeremy Howard, 38 of Magnolia and Zachary Morris, 20 of Clayton outside of the store in the vehicle.
Officials said further investigation revealed the suspects to be in possession of approximately 11.1 grams of methamphetamine and 240 bags of heroin. Howard and Clay were also found to be wanted on multiple charges out of various Delaware courts. All 3 suspects were arrested without incident and transported to police headquarters where they were presented and arraigned via video court on the following charges;
Manufactures, delivers, or PWID a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity w/ aggravating factor, Conspiracy Second Degree – Agreement to Aid Another Felony/Overt Act, Possess Consume a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance except Human Growth Hormone w/o a Prescription with aggravating factor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Not Related to Personal Use Marijuana.
In addition, Clay was charged with 2 counts of Shoplifting.
Howard and Mr. Clay were committed to the Department of Corrections in lieu of $14,500 secured bond.
