Rehoboth Beach Police end hours-long overnight barricaded suspect incident peacefully.
Early this morning, Monday, January 7, 2019, Rehoboth Beach Police were called to the 100 block of Rehoboth Avenue to check the welfare of a suicidal subject located inside an apartment building which led to a barricade situation, according to police.
Officials said with the assistance of multiple agencies, police were able to bring the incident to a peaceful conclusion without any injuries.
Just after 1:00 this morning, Rehoboth Beach Police received information that a resident of the Moore Apartment Building located in the 100 block of Rehoboth Avenue had reportedly made suicidal statements. When officers responded to the scene and attempted to contact the subject he refused to come to the door of the residence, began beating on the walls and yelling statements that concerned the officers, according to police.
While on scene, police received reports that there were possible weapons and or explosives in the residence causing the request for outside agency resources. Police secured the building and evacuated the other residents.
Just before 4:00, police were able to get the subject to exit his resident and surrender. The subject was taken into custody without incident or injury and transported to Beebe Healthcare for evaluation.
No charges have been filed against the subject at this time. No weapons or explosives were recovered.
