Wilmington – The Delaware State Police have identified Michael Rendle, 58, of Wilmington as the pedestrian who was struck and killed in a motor vehicle collision, that occurred at approximately 5:19 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2019, on Philadelphia Pike just north of Beverly Place, Wilmington.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 5:19 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2018, on Philadelphia Pike just north of Beverly Place In Wilmington.
The initial investigation has determined that a 1986 Chevy Caprice, being driven by a 51-year-old Wilmington man was traveling northbound in the right lane of Philadelphia Pike, north of Beverly Place which is just north of Marsh Road. A 58-year-old Wilmington man was attempting to cross Philadelphia Pike in an undetermined direction when he was struck by the front right corner of the Chevy and thrown to the pavement, where he came to rest, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin. The Chevy came to a stop just north of the spot of the collision.
The pedestrian who was pronounced deceased at the scene, was not utilizing a crosswalk, was not wearing any reflective clothing nor carrying a light. Impairment on his behalf is undetermined at this time, said Austin. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Chevy was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. Austin said neither speed nor impairment are factors on his behalf.
The northbound lanes of Philadelphia Pike were closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

Troopers have just reopened all lanes of Philadelphia Pike. For approximately three hours all northbound lanes were completely closed and traffic southbound was restricted while Troopers investigated a fatal accident.

Philadelphia Pike northbound is completely closed and traffic southbound is restricted to one lane. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes of travel.
