Officials: Suspected Drunk Driver Stole Maryland Trooper’s Vehicle, Fled Into Delaware, Crashed

Glasgow –  At around 3:30 this afternoon, Maryland State Police began calling for assistance from Delaware authorities.

Troopers and officers from several Delaware police agencies converged on the intersection of Glasgow Avenue and Old Country Road, south of Peoples Plaza, after an officer needs assistance call went out over the radio.

When authorities arrived on scene they found a Maryland State patrol car crashed into a ditch and the airbags fully deployed.

Just before the officer needs assistance call went out there was an incident in Elkton. Police say that a  32-year-old Elkton, Maryland man, identified as Tyree Jordan, was allegedly driving drunk when he caused a crash on Route 40 in Elkton.

As Troopers investigated the crash, Jordan was sitting in the Trooper’s vehicle. At one point he was able to slip out of his handcuffs and jumped behind the wheel, according to police. As he fled the scene he crashed into a
Singerly Rescue Truck. He then backed up and sped away. Troopers reportedly drew their weapons and ordered Jordan to stop. He then fled down Route 40  towards Delaware.

It’s believed that the vehicle in the ditch was the stolen Trooper’s vehicle.

Delaware State Police took Jordan into custody. He will face multiple charges in Delaware and Maryland.
