New Castle – County Police were forced to shoot two pit bulls after they attacked their owner and another woman, according to police.
Just after 6;30 Wednesday night officers were called to the unit block of Scottie Lane for reports of a dog attack in progress.
Upon their arrival, officers witnessed the dogs attacking the two woman, a 70-year-old woman and a 20-year-old woman.
One of the arriving officers was able to draw attention away from the woman by yelling. That officer was then attacked, forcing the officer to open fire.
Police said the second dog was killed when it was shot by multiple officers after it charged the officers.
The dog that was shot by the first arriving officer was later found and taken away by animal control.
Both women suffered serious injuries in the attack, according to police.
